Ich druhý album Three však ukazuje, že hoci sú dievčatá stále ešte tínedžerky, majú dvojitú dávku odvahy.
Na začiatku stáli Keisha Buchananová, Mutya Buenaová a Siobhan Donaghyová. Siobhan sa však koncom leta 2001 rozhodla skupinu opustiť. Prečo? Keisha a Mutya začali viac inklinovať k hip-hopu a Siobhan zasa k indie-rocku. "Vyrastali sme v rozličných prostrediach, tak preto," hovorí Keisha. Siobhan nahradila v skupine liverpoolska vokalistka Heidi Rangeová, ktorá mala v tom čase za sebou už pomerne úspešnú sólovú kariéru. Kým na prvom albume Sugababes (One Touch) boli predovšetkým sentimentálne songy 16-ročných dievčat, ktoré sa iba hľadajú, druhý album pôsobí o niečo vyspelejšie a odvážnejšie.
"Neviem, či sme predtým prehliadali svoje osobnosti, ale myslím si, že teraz máme konečne šancu ukázať sa také, aké sme," prezrádza Keisha a zároveň dodáva: "Nikdy by ste si nemysleli, že som naozaj bláznivá, že strúham ksichtíky ako Jim Carrey, ibaže v ženskom podaní. Nemysleli by ste si, že Mutya je celkom zábavná a že Heidi v sebe skrýva hneď niekoľko osobností."
Nový album Three sľubuje množstvo najrôznejších chutí. Tmavé tóny pouličného R"?n"?B, štipku rocku a hip-hopu, skladby, kde dievčatá rapujú, či balady v štýle Alicie Keys. Sugababes tvrdia, že už nikdy o sebe nechcú počuť "iba ako o ďalšej dievčenskej skupine". Zdá sa, že už naozaj vyrástli.
